Downey Jr. as Chaplin

What did you guys think of Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Mr. Chaplin?
It's been a while since I've seen it, but I really enjoyed the film and DOwney's perfomance especially.
What do you think? Could someone have done it better?

silent film night

toniht my partner a Chaplin Fan, and myself a Keaton fan are Going to have a silen t film night. I have seen every silent Bister Keaton Movie Made. But I am not that good with Chaplin... So we are going to smoke our eyes and ware our lips thin. I shall show off my beuaty spot and dress in frocks that drip with fring... We might watch a few of his talkies to to the fact that when she hears his voice she melts. It's all about Buster, Charlie, Laurel and Hardy, Bill Loydd, WC Fields and Fatty Arbuckle, we're bulling an all nighter.... you all should do it to, stay in friday night and worship days gone past...

It'm getting the Keystone K tattooed on my body in honoor of all the great silent films stars that came from there... Charlie being one of the, Buster and Fatter being my favorites.

this film is my favorite!!!! i believe it was the only film aswell that he didnt write much about in his diaries. he was going through turmoil? with his wife at the time.

Playing against Chaplin live

New to the tribe network and making introductions.
I have played against a really great Chaplin in Pa. My avatar pic is from a Chaplin show and there is one of us together in my album. It's a bad picture but it was a long time ago.

Working on stage with Charlie was awesome! Joel did a great job and was fully into character. Watching him do the roll dance it was easy to see the original Chaplin in his face. Doing a silent, live stage show was a whole 'nother thing. I also designed and built the FX riddled sets for both shows. Lots of sight gags. It was at Mt. Hope Estate & Winery. I think they are still doing shows there with Chaplin once a year. I'm not sure if Joel is still there.

I am in Las Vegas now and just making connections and small talk. CYA!

Just watched "The Idle Class"

Great idea for a tribe. Coincidentally (great minds think alike apparently), I just watched "The Idle Class" today.

It was made just after "The Kid", I think, in 1921. "The Idle Class" includes a brief "flash-aside" fantasy sequence that shows what the tramp character imagines could happen when he first sees the woman in the story. Wonderful visual technique for this movie. Chaplin has a dual role, playing both the tramp and a wealthy twit, occasionally fighting each other. Great showcase for acting and cinematic ideas.

Charlie Chaplin, who brought laughter to millions worldwide as the silent "Little Tramp" clown, had the type of deprived childhood that one would expect to find in a Dickens novel. Born in East Street, Walworth, London on 16 April, 1889, Charles Spencer Chaplin was the son of a music hall singer and his wife. Charlie Chaplin's parents divorced early in his life, with his father providing little to no support, either financial or otherwise, leaving his mother to support them as best she could. Chaplin's mother Hannah was the brightest spot in Charlie's childhood; formerly an actor on stage, she had lost her ability to perform, and managed to earn a subsistence living for herself, Charlie, and Charlie's older half-brother Sidney by sewing. She was an integral part of Charlie's young life, and he credited her with much of his success. Sadly, she slowly succumbed to mental illness, and by the time that Charlie was 7 years old, she was confined to an asylum; Charlie and Sidney were relegated to a workhouse (a government facility for orphaned and abandoned children) -- not for the last time. After 2 months, she was released, and the family was happily reunited, for a time. In later years, she was readmitted for an 8-month stretch later, during which time Charlie lived with his alcoholic father and stepmother, in a strained environment.
